Every student has the ability to succeed – either on a personal level, a professional level, or both.  As a teacher, it is my job to set the expectations very high.  In each student’s musical journey to reach those high expectations, regardless of whether they achieve the expectations or not, the student truly discovers themselves as a flutist.  They find their art, their voice on the flute, and even themselves as a person while on their musical journey.  I provide as much information as I can and ways to guide the students in their learning.  But ultimately, as a teacher, it is my job to guide the student until the student can guide themselves through their musical journey and their own life.

Music is an emotional and very personal art.  When learning and sharing the art of music, students must become vulnerable, which is a very scary thing.  I teach my students to embrace this feeling of vulnerability and how to conquer these emotions and performance anxiety with techniques that are not only applicable to music, but also to other similar situations in life where one must become vulnerable.  I firmly believe in creating a safe, relaxed, and exciting environment where students can feel free to be themselves, share their personality and skill with others, and explore the world of music and themselves free of judgement, stress, and the problems of the outside world.
